a little over 40 years ago
dr. kenneth h cooper
coined the term ‘aerobics’
along with a series of exercises he originally designed
for astronauts.
a serious man of science, i’m sure,
he couldn’t have known
how many strip malls his idea would fill with jazzercise centers,
waste-basket studios,
not to mention the leotards, legwarmers and tennis shoes
that would be needed
to meet the needs of all the women (and some of the men)
who would look to dr. hooper’s regime
as their slimming salvation.
